Primary Program

Western Australian Curriculum (Pre-primary – Year 6)
The Western Australian Curriculum (WAC) is recognised as a leading curriculum program because it is grounded in interconnected principles of teaching, learning, and assessment. These principles draw on the latest research into best practices in assessment and its proven impact on enhancing student learning, progress, and achievement.
The Western Australian Curriculum is also internationally recognised, providing a strong foundation that supports future global university pathways and opportunities beyond school.
The Western Australian Curriculum also develops seven General Capabilities that are embedded across all subjects. These include Literacy, Numeracy, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Capability, Critical and Creative Thinking, Personal and Social Capability, Ethical Understanding, and Intercultural Understanding. These capabilities encompass the knowledge, skills, behaviours, and dispositions that enable students to live, learn, and work successfully in the twenty-first century and beyond.

Assessment Principles and Practices
Assessment at RBIS aligns with the Western Australian Curriculum (WAC) and is an integral part of effective teaching and learning. It supports student progress, informs instruction, and provides meaningful, timely feedback that enhances learning outcomes and drives continuous improvement.
Assessment takes many forms, including diagnostic, formative, and summative assessment, alongside a variety of strategies to support and evaluate student learning. These approaches ensure that assessment is continuous, purposeful, and responsive to each learner.
Each term includes a major project-based task, showcasing students’ talents and real capabilities through authentic and meaningful learning experiences.
RBIS emphasises performance-based assessment, grounded in the belief that students can demonstrate what they know and can do in meaningful, real-world contexts.
